In what will hopefully become an annual tradition with the Chapter, our first turkey hunt in Eden texas saw a lot of gobblers, but more misses than hits as Larry Hartoon was the only hunter to come away with a trophy (our Photoshopped picture notwithstanding)!

While our 2nd Annual Chapter Turkey Hunt in Eden Texas did not yield any turkeys, (there was a howling wind nearly all weekend) we were able to do a little rattler thinning!

Our October get together took place at the Houston Distributin Stein Room for an evening of comraderie, food and drink courtesy of our very own "Beer & Deer Guy" Kent Robinson.

Our January Chapter Meeting at the Houston Distributing Stein Room featured Kent & Molly Klineburger of Klineburger Enterprises as well as Susan & Wayne Schigol of Great Grey Outfitters, both donors to our Chapter Fundraisers. The Klineburgers are members of many SCI Chapters, including our own, and talked about the techiques and importance of properly maintaining and cleaning your hunting trophies. Susan and Wayne had some tips on how to add to those trophies by booking a hunt with them in Canada!

Johann Combrink of Numzaan Safaris, longtime SCI supporter and contributor to our annual Fundraisers, was on hand this month to tell us a little more about the company and hunting South Africa and surrounding nations.

The Chapter's 'Wild Bunch' (Kerry O'Day, Larry Rider, Bill Pullen, Ray Hartoon & Dale Bigger) went a shootin' to benefit the San Jacinto Chapter of the Boy Scouts, while Ben Arredondo ran shotgun at the recruiting booth for the Chapter. We didn't have high score, but were all winners with a fun time had by all.

Kerry and Carol O'Day, Bill Pullen and David Kelly attended an SCI conference hosted by the Austin Chapter, also attended by Alamo & Pineywoods Chapters, where Field Rep Kim Rappeleye gave us some instruction and pointers on the finer aspects of fund raising and other issues.

HGC-SCI First for Hunters celebrated the holidays at our Christmas Party, graciously hosted by Craig Phillips and Shirley Horan, while collecting a record number of donations for Women Helping Women, Hunters Harvest and Victory House.

The 2005 Hunting Show & Fundraiser was held at Sam Houston Race Park! Attendees visited with a great selection of hunting outfitters and vendors over two days, enjoyed two great evenings of food and entertainment (including a Friday night luau party) AND horse racing entertainment at the park!

This is the first of what has become an annual event: the largest Texas Parks & Wildlife Hunter Education session in Texas with over 100 participants in 2005! It took place over a weekend at Sam Houston Race Park in Houston with the help of TPWD and Houston Safari Club, and even included lunch both days for all participants!
